Presenter Bio:

Brian McLaughlin, President of Emerald Elephant Entertainment LLC, NAAAP Tucson

Brian spent 20 years as an Army and Army Reserve officer, mostly in Special Operations.  He commanded a specialized paratrooper unit called Pathfinders, was the Joint Operations Center Chief in Special Operations Command Europe during the Global War on Terror, oversaw missions into Afghanistan soon after 9/11, and supervised a civilian evacuation during civil war in the Ivory Coast.  He served as a General’s Aide-de-Camp and as an Infantry leader during the Cold War.

His military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and German and Dutch Commando Parachutist badges.  In civilian life, Brian founded a film company, has been a producer on nine feature films, has been an officer of two international corporations (including a Raytheon subsidiary), and was a business manager on multiple programs.

He has served on boards of various non-profit organizations, including the Raytheon Asian Pacific Association (in Tucson) and the Asian Pacific Alumni of Notre Dame, and has been the president of two non-profits.  He was honored by the University of Notre Dame as an Exemplary Asian Pacific Alumni and twice honored as Member of the Year of the Raytheon Tucson Management Club.  He was a council member of the Raytheon (Missile Systems) Mentor Program and is a mentor in the Notre Dame MBA Mentor Program.

He is on the Organizing Committee of NAAAP-Tucson.  He has an MBA from Boston University, a business degree from Notre Dame.  He was captain of the Notre Dame gymnastics team for three years and still coaches adult gymnasts.

This Webinar will cover a variety of lessons learned from over 25 years of military, civilian, and sports leadership and management experience, including analyzing contrasting leadership styles, qualities of strong leadership, priorities of leaders, and developing leadership abilities. Related topics addressed will include developing subordinates, effective communication, humor in leadership, teamwork and delegation, integrity and fairness, and self-confidence.

A portion of the discussion will be specifically related to Asian Americans and overcoming stereotypical perceptions, while recognizing how cultural values and beliefs really may impact our behavior and our management style. Examples of Asian and Asian American leaders and managers will be highlighted.
